Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis
Kim Do-Won

Abstract
Dandruff is clinically noninflammatory excessive scaling of the scalp. Seborrhic dermatitis is a common condition that usually appears as simple dandruff on the scalp. The relationship between these two conditions is still controversial. Many regard these two as being identical, with pityriasis sicca(dandruff) being a mild noninflammatory type of seborffheic dermatitis. The cause of these conditions is not clear, although many attempts have been made relate it tio infections with Malassezia furfur, seborrhea, and impaired cellular immuity, etc. Diagnoisi is generally straightforward, but the differential
diagnosis includes a variety of conditions. Treatment is generally topical. Selenium, salicylic acid, tar preparations, and zinc pyrithione shampoos are frequently used to improve these conditions. This paper briefly reivews the defintion, clinical manifestations, classifications pathogenesisi, diagnosisi, and treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
